Warm and cold water corals?!

The owner of an LFS here runs all his tanks at different temperatures depending on the type of coral. I've never seen that as I thought all corals come from warmer waters. I tried googling a bit but couldn't really find out that much about what types of corals belong to cold/warm waters. I'd like to find out which of the corals we mostly keep (euphyllia, shrooms, acros etc.)belong to warmer/colder waters.

The vast majority of typical corals come from tropical seas with very stable and consistent temperature, regardless of the species or where in the world it came from. Unless your guy is importing very unusual species, I would question his logic and ask for research to back it. It is certainly not standard practice for typical corals.

As far as I know almost all corals in the hobby are tropical and prefer the same general temperature range. There are definitely cold water reefs in places like Scotland, but their inverts are almost all non-photosynthetic and not present in the hobby
