I got a rubbermade roughneck garbadge can today for my water storage and on the bottom it says its number 2, is this the one that i need?

The trash containers you want are made of polypropelyne and have a P or PE on the bottom of them someplace. I am using the Rubbermaid Brute trashcans myself and they hod up quite well. I think I got that from the Chemisty forums but I am not sure.

it has HDPE on the bottom, is that ok? or is it only PE ?
I will check things out there in the meantime.

I think the RubberMaid containers are all food-grade, so they're considered safe. Lots of people use them, although I don't know explicitly about the RoughNeck models. Are they rated as food containers?

Im not sure if there rated as food containers or not. All i know is that it has HDPE on the bottom and also the 2 with the arrows around it. I think its ok just wanted to make sure. I looked around the kitchen and a lemonade container had the 2 on it.

The type of plastic is fine. It's the specific plasticizers used to make it that are the issue.

HDPE is High Density PolyEthylene and is what they make milk / water jugs out of. it is chemically resistant and water repellant. this is what they make the pipe for commercial aquariums and fisheries out of. just make sure you clean it out really well to get rid of any residues left over from manufacturing.
