water movement/flow

Hi,

I just purchased my first clam. I currently have it under a 400 watt, 14K metal halide. I understand that Clams do not want much for water flow. But how much/little is to much/little? I have the clam at the bottom of my 180 gallon directly under the halide and also in an area of minimal flow. When the clam is fully open the mantel does move around due to water flow. Is that ok? Should water flow be allowed to move the mantel at all? I can build a wall around the clam but then viewing will be tough. The clam appears happy but hasn't out right told me so. :-) It appears to be able to draw and expell as much water as required!

Thanks,

Aaron

as long as the mantle isn't unnaturally folded over and held in that manner the clam should be fine.

I agree. If the mantle is not folded or pushed back then it should be fine. I have my clam in a tank with a bunch of SPS. I just tucked him in by some of the rock to restrict the flow.
