Water Temp Problem.

I have a 90g AGA and have been running it at between 79 and 80 degrees. I recently weened the system from it's bio-balls and added to new mj1200 powwer-heads. Lately I have noticed that the temp is staying at 82 with no help from the heaters??? I'm afraid as the weather gets warmer that it could go too high. Can removing the bio-balls (by eliminating the trickling water which will cause cooling) cause the temp to run higher? Can the additional power-heads add much heat to the water? I can't think of anything else ive done that could cause this. The temp HAS been warmer outside but the temp inside I don't think has changed more than 3 to 4 degrees. Any help is appreciated as I am at a loss here.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

Probably a two pronged affect:

1) (as BOR said) the MJ1200s are an additional source of heat
2) you have less evaporation (which cools the water) as the water going over the bio-balls did

Some suggestions:

Run a fan (you can try a clip on or a computer fan)... this will definitly help with cooling (can run as much as 2-3 degrees).

Also check your heaters to make sure they are functioning in the correct range.

Thanks guys...Any ideas on water circulation that doesn't require 4 power heads and produces less heat? I lost my Valentini Puffer this morning and I believe it was due to temp at 82 as all water params check out fine. Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

That's high, but it's not through the roof. I don't know if 82 degrees will cause the kill, but I don't know the fish either. Sometimes my tank tops at 83-84 degrees. I have yet to lose anything. However, I raised my lights higher and put in a fan, so it's holding steady at 79 at the moment.

I went from MJ1200s to MJ900s. The smaller PH is uses about 1/3 the watts with good flow. A little less flow is better than having to buy a chiller. R
