Wavebox and Stream(s) on a 120 (4x2x2)

I am looking at ordering a wavebox for my 120; how well will it function on my a 4 foot tank? I know the wave will be about 3/4" but is that from trough to crest or 3/4" up and 3/4" down, so ~1.5" trough to crest? If it is only 3/4" is this a good flow throughout the tank?

Currently I have two 6060s and am thinking of just running the wavebox during the day and the 6060s at night or selling the 6060s and getting a single 6100 on a controller. Which would be the better option?

Roger, you have a 120 with a wavebox and a single stream don't you? How is it setup and how do you run the flow (wavebox during the day and cutoff at night?)?

Thanks,

I too have a 120 and found that i need to run my wavebox thru out the day alternating with the powerheads in order to keep the debris from gathering. I have a lot of rock(~150lbs) and i noticed when i had the longer duration of wavebox or just streams the debris would settle, so i shortened up the times.

here is a link to mine in action: http://www.bentheredonethat.us/fishcam/fishcam.htm
It is on from ~10:30am est to 6pm est.

Do you have a lot of rockwork and corals? If u go with the wavebox, you might find that experimentation is going to be best!
You wont be disappointed even though its a 4ft tank...nice wave action!!

I have about 130-140 lbs of rock, but it is pretty open; I basically built a tunnel.

What stream do you have and how do you have the wavebox and streams positioned. Can you run the streams full power while the wavebox is on or does it mess up the wave?

Nice streaming video! I saw it earlier when the wavebox wasn't on and I was a little disappointed because I thought it was on, but just watched it a few min ago and it looks pretty sweet. Do you have any SPS? If so how are they doing with the addition of the box?

I am looking at getting the box because with the 6060s I am getting some corals that are growing with the flow, which I don't like. I just wonder what the best option would be. I was thinking something along these lines:

  • Keep both 6060s and add a wavebox (maybe put them on timers, but I think I'd rather the random flow from a controllable stream)

Keep one 6060 and add a wavebox and a 6100 with a controller.

Take both 6060s out and add one 6100 and wavebox with controller

Any thoughts?

I have the wavebox in the back left corner facing the length of the tank and both streams are facing each other prety much. I am using 6100's at full. To calm one of them down though i did put on the 6200 housing on it which seemed to help. Wave action seems to be fine even with the streams running. I also have a seio1500 in the middle rear facing downward to blow stuff out from behind the rocks.

I only have 1 sps...rest are soft corals...

Sweet video!

Right now I have the streams in the back corners of my tank facing the opposite front corner. I was thinking of replacing the right one with a 6100 and leaving the 6060 on the left side and putting the wavebox on the left side as well. I was just wondering if I'd be able to run the 6060 and the 6100 during the say while the box is on. Also, does the controller that the wavebox come with have a night mode or does it have to be hooked up to the 7095 in order to be turned off at night? How does it hook up to the 7095? I assume you still use the controller that comes with it and you hook that up to the 7095? Would it be worth it to me to get a 7095 for a single 6100 and the wavebox or should I just get the single controller?

Yes, you will still get waveaction with the steams running at the same time. I have my wavebox controller plugged into the stream controller. It plugs into it just like a stream and i have the stream controller set as master and wavebox controller set as slave. As far as night mode, to be honest i dont remember cause i have always had mine hooked to the stream controller which of course has night mode. And as far as stream placement, that is how i used to have mine set up, but found i needed more movement to stir up the debris on sandbed so i moved them to the sides even though looks wise, it was better in the back.

hope this helps!

ps...i have an updated tank shot in gallery!
