I live in the mountains so water must come from a well.
My water is really silty and clogs filters very fast. Any attempt
at filtering it requires a new filter in a weeks time. I am forst to buy my water in gallons an has been the sole reason for my tanks
size restictions. Even keeping my 55 gallon is a chore due to water changes.
I want to get a nice ro/di unit but the 3 stage RO unit i have didnt last a week before it was cloged. Dont want to have a new RO/DI unit glog up in a few days.
I dont mind building a prefilter of some kind but must be something that can be cleaned or im back to changing filters all the time.
I was thinking about a backwashable sand filter, a small one sold
for filtering a swimming pool. Use that as my prefilter. but im not sure that would filter down to smaller than 5 microns or even close. maybe with a different filter media? i dont know.
Thats the only thing i can think of that might even slightly clean the water before entering a prefilter then the ro/di.
Any thoughts on the matter would be great. Gallon jugs of water get costly.
Thank
