Went nuts with the camera today...

that is still considered a bit of the holy grail for local corals out here :). I have only seen a very small handful of reefers with it, and even fewer that were willing to frag it :)

Sweet! Is the Ultimate Blue from gcarroll's tank? In person, that is my favorite coral period. The echinata is incredible. Don't you have the "highliter" - that crazy yellow bottlebrush like the one Sanddollar has?

Well show us a pick man! Northbay101 brought it to Arizona, Justreefit grew out a frag into a huge colony, Sidewinder bought the colony, I got a tiny frag of it. Its finally taken off for me. Nothing I've seen compares in brightness!

These are a couple of months old, but they're FTS of all 3 sides:

I got it from one of our prominent local reefers, budgetyourself, who got it from Greg. Looks 10x better in her tank.

I do. I sort of giggle about it when it comes up cause SandDollar and I sort of agreed to keep it to ourselves for awhile. Next thing I know, two people in Arizona have it:lol: As Tom mentioned, that's when I let Rich know that I was gonna start sharing it to the community.

Couple frags went out through exoticreefs and ultimatefrags, where we renamed it the Candlelight Acro. John wasn't really feeling the highlighter name:p I recently found out from Tyree that he used to distribute it as his Super Chesterfieldensis, and was able to get blue branches out of it:eek2: He wasn't sure if he still has it.

Anyway, here it is:

My favorite thing about the Candlelight, is that it can maintain the bright tips in lower, dimly lit areas of the tank. Brightening up those spots where you wish there was more color.

It sucks that SandDollar's not in reefkeeping anymore. He was good for the collecting side of the hobby. Definitely on par with guys like tubs, Maximus, tacocat, ROAB, etc.

Very nice Karl-
I can see why the Aquascene's True Echinata is your favorite that piece is awesome. Now I am on the hunt for it :)

Incredible collection Karl. I love the open aquascaping. You definitely have one of my favorite tanks. I love it!

Where do you have your echinata and Bali tricolor placed? I think I have mine too high b/c it's not blue anymore.

This coral freaking rocks. Eddies Purple Monster

Beautiful! But you can't keep a good thing to yourself. :) Actually I think the AZ ones are just backups. And its a good thing - I think Northbay's bit it, his backup was Justreefit. Justreefit sold this backup to Sidewinder when he took his tank down, and I was Sidewinder's backup. Then I think Sidewinder's colony bit it. I think me and someone else might have frag backups. Just another reason to get frags to friends! :)

I remember when justreefit took it out of his tank and it was in a salt bucket over in the corner and it STILL lit up like it was under fluorescents.

That Eddie's PM is awesome. I gotta get me a true ech.

Beautiful Sohal, BTW.

Yea, that highlighter...candlelight is a nice coral, definately flouresces (is that a word?). I remember when Gordan, Northbay101, had it some three years, maybe four years back. I can't remember exactly when he moved back to Arizona. He picked it up directly from Sandollar.

Karl, how long have you had your piece? I remember seeing it in your old tank and you were keeping it quiet at that point. Wasn't that late 2005. Does it grow slow? fast? When Gordan had it back in the day he offered me a piece, we always backed each others corals up but I declined, I didn't really care for it at the time...I thought it was nice but... lol. Funny how that is, we all have our unique ideas about what is awesome. Seems the echinata has a definate 100% awesome factor.

The echinata gets the most light and is 17" from the bulb. I keep the tricolor very low, and is about 25" from the bulb. It's pretty shaded too. I'll probably end up placing my GARF bonsai in a similar position.

Very true, but it wasn't really my idea:D Quite a few have it locally now, so I'm covered. Tim's (tfp) got a beautiful colony of it, too.

I just sold my Sohal and Purple Tang last week. It was a tough decision, but I wanted a more peaceful tank.

I obtained a frag in '04. It was a tiny nub that was dying, and I didn't think it would make it. Growth rate is very good.

James (Aquascene) ID'd it as A. kimbeensis, which I think is pretty darn accurate.
