me and the wife are thinking about taking the grandson to a Aquarium this July , any one been to them ?? i think im leaning towards The Shedd & Navy Pier for the wifes shopping fix, i know Theres the Nation Aquarium in Baltimore and another nice one in PA somewhere .Just wanted to know if anyone has visited any of these ??

guy from work just got back from chicago and said shedd's was great. and hes not even into saltwater.

How far do you want to travel?

Shedd is very good but I think tops is still the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta; better overall and much more kid oriented than Shedd. Pittsburg is very nice but I have been told Newport in KY is better (have not been). Columbus zoo is nice with the manatees and Akron Zoo's Jellyfish exhibit last year was nice but I don't know if that was a permanent exhibit. It has been years since I was at Baltimore's so I really can't comment.

I think it's time for a road trip!

I wouldn't go to Shedd's on the fourth, unless you want to look at humans instead of fishes. We were there Memorial day weekend, got there at 10:00 am. The line was long, and it was a 1.5+ hour wait time until we got to the door. Luckily we had a stroller so we got to go in a different line which made it a little faster. When we got in, the place was packed. I was litterally looking at people and not the fish. If you went any other time though, would definitely recommend it. If you do go, I recommend buying tickets first on the web so you can skip the line altogether. Oh and one more thing, talked to some lady on the bus. And she also commented on the aquarium in KY being better than Shedd's. Going to check that place out when I am in the area.

National Aquarium in Baltimore is very nice. We have been there a few times on the way to and from Ocean City, Md. Your wife can def. get her shopping fix there. lol

Georgia Aquarium hands down is best,,, if you go try to to get tickets to the behind the scenes tour,, you get to see the lights and equipment of the reef and walk across a bridge on the whale shark tank,, however baltimore is also nice if you dont want to go to atlanta...

The Ripleys Aqurium in Gatlenburg, TN is nice and much better than the Myrtle Beach one, I you want to do some hiking in the Smoky Mountians and vist Biltmore Est.....I definitaly wan to visit Shed and Atlanta myself

Georgia Aquarium should definately be on the "Bucket List" from what I hear. I want to go and check it out. Let's all road trip to Hotlanta.

Atlantis Marine World Aquarium, Riverhead, NY is awesome. http://www.atlantismarineworld.com/ It's not a day trip to get there though...
Joe Yaiullo, who runs the place spoke at a club meeting a number of years back. I've been twice. Real nice and lots of kid activities. They have boat trips on the bay, cool interactive stuff. Bunch of wineries and shopping out on the North Fork of LI also.

Shedd's Aquarium is very nice. I have been there twice.

The Aquarium of the America's in New Orleans is also nice.

The Georgia Aquarium is supposed to be the best, but I haven't been there yet.

the baltimore aquarium is worth a trip, not TONS of reef related stuff tho (for how big it is anyway), pittsburgh is nice as well for how close it is, there is also the outlet mall in grove city pa for the wife (no sales tax!).

the shedd is awesome the best i have seen
pittsburgh is cool for a day trip
chatanoga, tenesee is very cool
and georgia is little below the shedd

The Shedd is great on a trip there last year. Whoever took over managing the place since the early 90's when I 1st went there really turned the place around.

The Baltimore National is poorly managed and with the poor quality of the displays it shows. The few exceptions being the shark and ray and lagoon exhibits, and the brand new jellyfish exhibit. But even those had some issues that were avoidable and could be remedied when you put into mind their massive budget and high entry costs.

Shedd is great, but Monterey Bay Aquarium is by far the best aquarium I've ever been to. They have the most unique displays of any of them. I'd highly recommend it.

Shedd is good and the one in Atlanta is too. +1 on both of them. I think the Atl one is better but a little more cost too.
