What do you reef geek's really look like???

Its funny. if you watch the original endless summer, they have that segment on the wedge and they say "last year $30,000 worth of fins were lost at the wedge" I dont know if they were exagerating or if it was a joke, but if it was real Id love to see todays numbers. I cant imagine a fin even staying on unless it was glued on with some of those waves. You guys are nuts, almost as bad as the guys that surf waimea shore break.

I have pictures of the wedge when the sets were even with the tops of those poles. Whenever a wave would break it felt like a 8.0 earthquake. The beach was filled with 1000s of spectators along with 2 ambulances just daring someone to go out and tempt fate. A couple guys did. They both came out okay. God was smiling on them.

My buddy Tom went out on a particularly vicious evening. He was not able catch a wave and disappeared, I ran to the nearest house to call 911 (way before cell phones) Darkness fell and the search helicopters with spot lights were scanning the rough water. They finally spotted Tom around 11pm in the harbor. He swam all the way out and around....at night!

Anyway, back to the regularly scheduled program :)

I live within a 25 min drive to the wedge, and it is a great spot to watch guys tear it up and get torn up.

$30,000 worth of fins sounds like a bit much. I don't think thats right. Come on. It's not waiamea bay.

Whenever I'm up there, it's usually at night at the bars in newport.

It gets more intense, but somedays its close.

The difference between waimea and the wedge is, the wedge can actually produce some peeling shoulders and you could even pull out of a wave without getting your hair wet. Waimea, the door slams shut everytime...and its twice as thick!

Well I've been to both Waimea Bay shorey and the Wedge and they are equally fun. I go to Oahu every year at least once, stay in Hawaii Kai. I love Sandys and the Keiki shorebreak on Oahu. I was of one of the ten out at the Wedge back in July this summer.

haha yeah man. Almost five years as a member and it takes the wedge to get you to post something. I almost posted the welcome to RC banner but then saw your join date.

Since I've been hanging around here more often again, guess I should post.

I'm single so I get to travel... have fun.... and play with toys!!!
