Christy and I were discussing the tank hops the other day, and had an interesting idea. The way it's been done in the past (with a bus) makes a long day of it, and that may not work for everyone. One possible alternative would be to use private vehicles, and encourage people to get together and car pool. Schedule ~2 hour long "open house" slots at various members' houses throughout the day. Overlap them a little, so people can spend more or less time time wherever they want.
This has a couple of advantages. First, there's no cost involved (except for gas). After that, it's just more flexible. It gives people the option to see some of the tanks, when maybe they can't commit the full day to visit all of them. Or, someone could do a portion of the 'hop' in one geographic area. There's flexibility to skip a tank here or there, or maybe visit a nearby LFS in between two stops. The only added complexities are that parking could be tight at some locations (carpool), and we'll need to give out mapquest directions to get people from place to place.
