Or self propagating. Comethign could be munching on it, too. I wouldn't get concerned until it starts developing tissue loss with black around it. Polyps are out, so just keep an eye on it.
That looks like the handy work of a bad crab. A friend of mine had corals in one of her 220 gallon tanks that were decreasing in size sometimes overnight. Basically looked just like yours does. Turned out, we had to take every rock out of the tank and searched all the holes in each rock. We ended up finding a half dollar sized gorilla crab that had a 3 inch cutting it took from one of her toadstools right in its hole. It might not hurt to keep an eye on your corals at night.
The crab we found was a hitchhiker. You might never see them if they hitchhike in as small baby crabs. But they grow and the one we found was taking huge chunks of coral by the time we found it. I doubt your hermits would be the culprits.
dont want to hyjack this thread, but mine has been closed up for about 3-4 days and now looking greenish brown and really about 1/2 its size. I dont know how to attatch a pic or I would....any thoughts. The tank is only 4 weeks old and all the parameters are good.
