What happened to the Australian Clown Trigger market?

I was surfing the on-line fish supplier sites today and noticed that Marine Center has Australian Clown Triggers priced at $500. Yikes!

and Live Aquaria doesn't list them at all.

Anybody know what the deal is?? ...or has it been this way for awhile and I just haven't noticed?

Its very hard to get a Aussie clown trigger here. apparently its a danger to dive with these fish.

Alot of our fish are picked in selected numbers too, and most of them do go the US. which leaves people like me without one :(

For anybody that's interested...The Marine Center now has Australian CTs listed for under $200. Maybe the $500 thing was a typo?

I don't think there is any difference in their coloration. Marine center says that they supposedly have better "quality and health"

I've got a clown from Sri Lanka and his fins are red in color. Never seen a clown like this but it sure is cool and makes other clowns look a little plain if that can be said about clowns. One of these days I'll get around to taking a photo, but it won't be today.

don't they look the same as any other clown how could you tell whats what

Yeah, its probably hard to tell the difference by looking at them, but Australia has strict collection laws so you know that an Aussie CT was collected correctly, which helps avoid health issues later.

eljefe 3, I'd love to see that Sri Lankan clown trigger. Where did you get it?

Sri Lankan CT came from a wholesaler there. I actually received two CT's with the slightly smaller one showing similar but not quite so bright fins. I went away for a week and my wife informed me before I came back that the slightly smaller one had passed. He was getting beaten up a bit, but not too much, so not sure what happened with him. Unfortunately the wholesaler sent me the CT's which were too close in size and they were supposed to be much different in size so they wouldn't be competing.

Not sure if too many fish get shipped from Sri Lanka to the states due to the long time in transit, but if someone wants contact info I can send the URL of the wholesaler. Fish always arrive in great shape and looking good ( at least for a 12 journey from Sri Lanka to Thailand).

Things are good Capt I, thanks.

OK here's a couple shots taken just after I pumped in some new NSW so the water isn't the clearest.

Now The Marine Center has Australian CTs listed for $399. Sheesh...its like a roller coaster.

Here is my Clown Trigger and it is not from Sri Lanka. i got this fish as a Australian Clown Trigger, as you see on this picture it has the red fins . I got the CT when it was 2 1/2" long after three years is almost 9". the fish did not have a red fins till i start to feed it live NJ chowder size clams this clams are caught to make clam chowder with it they are very big clams about 3" to 4" long , Zorro the CT can eat one clam a day.

eljefe3...how big is your clown trigger? mine is a little over 8" and is starting to get that red coloration on the fins.

Zorro, nice photo. Looks like your camera is a lot better than mine. I had a 5" and a 3" ( both with the red coloration) but after being gone for 1 week I came back to find the little guy had passed and not sure why as all my wife told me was that he died, although I did see the bigger guy working him over pretty hard.

My clown in the above picture is probably 5-6".
