What is Purple UP

It seems to be just a Calcium Supplement with some added Iodine to it. Nothing magic about that.

From their advertising:

" ...raises dissolved calcium levels ... Replenishes iodine levels.. "

It looks to be mostly just calcium carbonate dust in water though, which won't do a thing for supplementing calcium and alkalinity.

The calcium carbonate in it is essentially worthless, IMO. It cannot dissolve in reef aquarium water. Since you do not know how much of anything else is in it, I expect there are better ways to add things that you know that you want.

It worked well for me and everyone I know likes it but for people to say its worthless without ever using is well you know. My rock became purple very quick compaired to people that hadn't used it and there tank was 6 months to a year older than mine.

I never said it is worthless. The main ingredient, calcium carbonate, is, however, worthless as an additive.

But if you like the apparent effects, and are not worried about adding unknown ingredients of unknown concentration, by all means keep doing so. :)

I dont have any, but some cutie was trying to sell me some the other day when I was looking for B-ionic. Of which they didnt have. What else is in that could be bad. While we are at it. Can I put the b-ionic 2part stuff in my top off water?

I think B-ionic is meant to put into salt water? Maybe it makes no difference, but you have to dose one part, then wait a bit, then dose the second part. I guess adding them both at the same time makes it less effective, or useless.

For coralline, I noticed this just recently...I changed my MH bulbs from 10K to 12K in spectrum and now my tank is purpling up (the plastic overflow is now half covered with coralline, whereas for the past year or so with the 10K lights it had only a spot or two!)
Maybe it's just coincidental. I'm just observing, not experimenting.

What I KNOW works pretty well is GOOD FLOW! My prizm skimmer, which I used on my old 10g nano tank, had two bits of plastic dipped into the water, but one piece was part of the overflowing return from the skimmer. That part was completely covered in coralline, but the part right next to it (actually, the same piece of plastic, but divided with a vertical piece) had very little on it! Also notice that your pumps intake and outlet have the most coralline on them!

I hate those type shops! I buy whatever she's selling every time! I also hate it when those really hot girls come to my office selling stuff in mini skirts. I like it at the time but after I enter the purchase in Quickbooks I'm usually mad.

Ever seen the movie "Duece Bigalo, Male Gigalo?" (First movie, not the crap-pile second movie).

If you have think "I need some snails. From the bottom of the tank"... ;)

Darn those hotties and their selling prowess!

Won't the hot wife beat you for spending all your money in the fish store because some other hottie told you to buy stuff?
Hot or not, wives seem to dislike the trading of cash for fish...

;)
