What is the best place to dive?

Im looking to get my cert in the ft Lauderdale are over Christmas, and dont know where the best place to go is.

so best place to dive or get cert.? i love fortlauderdale diving right off the beach and west palm.

There are many, many great dive sites off Fort Lauderdale. For good reef dives, there are many locations that have rows of buoys boats can just tie up to. Aside from that, any local dive store will have a book of local dive sites that tell you all about the various sites, and GPS coordinates that will take you right to them.

Best beach dive is Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, right off Commercial Blvd.

Also if you're looking for cert, I guess you're in a rush because you're from Oregon, however I wouldn't suggest doing one of those shotgun weekend license tests. The more thorough (YMCA) programs will have you a lot more prepared, but they also take a lot more time.

Why do you advise against a short course, b/c you don't get as a comprehensive of a training?

definitely. my uncle is certified in everything PADI and NAUI and he is training me to. Im getting the NAUI open diver certification which is 8 hours of class, 8 hours of instruction, and 5 dives. Just like reefing, better to know to much than to little and suffer the consequences.

I got certified thru NAUI 10 years ago, and I can definitely say I learned a lot more than my friend did in his PADI 3 day class. As far as dive sites, just park your car on the beach, swim East until you see a reef, and enjoy! for the most part there are three lines of reefs that parallel the coast line, this first is literally 200yds off, the 2nd is closer to 3/4 mile and the third is way out.
