what is the perfect sg for a display tank?

Well, there are a lot of arguments out there as to which particular range is best, but I have always kept my displays at 1.025-1.027 with no problems. Most tend to agree that the preferred range is from 1.022-1.026.

i keep mine at 1.024 so that i have margin for error until i can get a refractometer. also it all depends on what your going to keep in your tank. if its reef the 1.023 to 1.026 will be fine but with FO i tend to go lower on salinity.

Depends on what you have in your tank ....

No two bodys of water have the exact same makeup ... so depending on what you are keeping you need to research what SG would work best with that.

As an average 1.023 -1.025 is a good range.
