Hi everyone. I am in the process of converting my reef to a SPS dominate tank. I want to do it right. I thought I would reach out to the pros and ask what are the top/best and must haves to add to a reef tank.

Currently I have frags and or small colonies of the following:

Marshall Island Blue Bottlebrush
Montipora setosa
ORA Bellina Acropora
ORA Hawkin's Blue Echinata
ORA Screaming Green Birdsnest
Pink Strawberry Mille
Red Planet tabling Acropora
Pocillopora Coral
Jeti Mind Trick Montipora
Purpal Haze Montipora

+1 on the list of corals. Pretty much, I agree with all of the corals that everybody have listed.

Here is the thing, the right system can make pretty much 90% of the acros look really good. You would be amazed at how many times I have taken brownies and turned them into nice looking acros. When you start picking out species vs trade names, it gets a lot easier.

I would say that it all just depends on your system, your experience, and your taste in corals. Here is a list that I kind of just threw together. These are not necessarily on my wish list, but are more well rounded names that are "must have corals" for most systems. These list could be a lot longer too.

beginner list
ORA Red Planet
ORA Birds of Paradise
ORA Jeremy's Montipora
Acropora Valida (tricolor)
Rainbow Montipora

Intermediate List
Blue Tenuis
Acorpora Horrida -
Plum Crazy
Hawkins Echinata
Tyree Setosa Montipora

Expert List
Acropora Suharsonoi
Acropora Granulosa
Acropora Loripes
Acropora Tortuosa

I don't have a huge tank, but these are my top ten favorite

Strawberry Shortcake (I got an encrusted plug that has started to grow out nicely!)

Tri-colored valida (This is one of my older sps, and it has grown beautifully)

Red ink tabling acro

Pink Jade

Lemon-Lime Milli

Snocone Protrata

ORA green birdsnest (Fast grower and very bright)

Reefer Madness Limeade

Aqua Delight

Red planet (I put this on for it's potential, but it is a very small frag, and has shown little to no growth. I hope it makes it!)

Only 10? :)

ORA Pearlberry
ATL Shades of Fall
ORA Red Planet
Tyree Purple Monster
Oregon Tort
Tubb's Pink Jade
Reefready Grape Juice

LOL, I like this list, but I can't keep a red Planet if my life depended on it, But my Torte, Lokani, and echinata grow good. Red planet goes to the expert list for me.
