What looks better, 20k or 15k hqi bulbs?

My 20ks seem a bit purpleish and don't look as natural as my old blue pc lights did.

does the 15k look better? (more blue?)

I' d appreciate the opion of some more experienced reefers.

Ps, I don't have actinic suplimentation.

Thanks

It depends on what brand manufacturer. A 15K will be less blue/purple than your 20K, but won't be white. Kind of an in-between of white and blue.

I like the 15 or 14K bulbs over everything else, you get te center medium which in my head is thebest of both worlds. Unless you like the really blue look with a higher Kelvin, or the yellow look with the lower Kelvin.

The type of ballast you are using will also make a difference. That said, I love my phoenix 14K with icecap electronic ballast. No actinics.

SD what kind of reflectors are you using with the phoenix 14k bulbs? and how could of an area are the lighting up for say...?

It's the PFO pendant. And I'm sorry, I don't understand the rest of your question...

i don't know what i just said either but what i was trying to say is how good does the light reflect 2by2 area ? or even more? how much of the tank does the light cover

A halide will cover a little more than 2 feet of ground area, after that 2 feet it starts to shade out.
It is always reccomended to use one halide for every two feet of tank.

Oh, sorry about that. OK, well, to be honest, I would not recommend the PFO then. I specifically bought it because my new tank is only 18" front to back, and I did not want excess light illuminating the living room  I previously used the hamilton reefstar, I belive it is. Much better spread of light, but I have heard that they are not the best reflector. I think the reefoptix III (don't quote me on the name) is supposed to be as good if not better (reflector wise) as the PFO.
