What size pump on 4"x5' Snailman Skimmer

I am going to construct a 4.5' tall version of Snailmans skimmer with the recirc modification SDGuy is uing in his skimmer. I am trying to determine the best size and method for bubble injection on the recirc pump.

SDGuy is using a Sedra 5000 on his 6' tall skimmer and indicates that the neck is completely full of bubbles. Due to the height and weight of the water column, he has to use an air pump to force air into the air intake on the sedra.

Does anyone have any recommendations or observations if this is the best size, brand pump and method for bubble injection?

Also, I was reading the thread on building a Bubble King like diffuser plate, would there be any value in adding a diffuser plate to try and reduce turbulance on a 4+ foot tall skimmer?

By the way, I don't have turbulence at my foam head. I assume it's due to the directionality of the water inlet, causing the whole water column to swirl slightly clockwise.
