What to feed RBTA?

greetings, I recently purchased a RBTA and tried to feed it mysis shrimp. The only issue is my cleaner shrimp steals nearly all the food before the anemone is able to ingest it. I am thinking about buying bigger pieces of meat so the shrimp won't be able to snatch it away.

I understand most fish & shrimp in grocery stores may be laced with chemicals bad for the anemone. So my question is what kinds of shrimps/scallops/krill can I safely feed them? Is there a particular market I should be searching for or perhaps something in the frozen isle? Thanks...

Thanks for reply luke. How are you buying these ingredients? Or better yet what markets are you going to for fresh food.

I used to feed my RBTA small bits of shrimp I would get at places like Raley's, Food 4 Less etc without any problems. (pea size pieces) This was usually done once every three weeks or so.

My RBTA has been thriving on fish poop and whatever else floats by. But then again I overfeed. Shrimp and scallops from the grocery store once in while if you feel generous.

I use frozen shrimp or scallops because the usually don't have preservatives. Read the label to verify it doesn't have any chemicals. Farmed shrimp from Asia is usually laced with antibiotics and filthy so I tend to stay away and go for wild caught. Do others use or have issues with farm raised shrimps?

My shrimp does the exact same thing. I usually feed him until he is full then put a good size chunk of my mysis in my bta.

I was on vacation last month at the outer banks so I got all fresh stuff from the local dock market.
You can try searching on Google for stores around you that would have anything fresh.

I feed my BTA's fresh frozen shrimp as well as scraps from walleye that I catch. I do order my shrimp fresh frozen from Louisiana. I'm thinking about making my own fresh frozen mix kind of like LRS or any one of the other frozen mixes. Buying by the pound sounds crazy but with a pound of shrimp, oysters, clams, squid, fish, scallops and whatever else I can come up with would make a huge batch of food much cheaper than buying LRS or the like. Of course I wouldn't put a pound of each kind of have to decide on how much of each to mix in. Still thinking about that.

But yes if you buy from the grocery store much of the seafood that is fresh frozen doesn't have additives, just make sure you read the label.

Also just an FYI shrimp is high in iodine so that is a plus for the anemone.
