what to look for when buying used C02 tanks?

I'm about to buy a used C02 tank locally. What kind of things should I look for?

Here's the tank and the regular, looks like a bubble counter too?

There will be a date stamped on the cylinder near the top. It will be when it was last inspected/serviced, they need to be checked ever 7 years or so? HTH

I'm picking it up in a couple hours, seller said tank is completely filled. Will check on that date code. Thanks for the tip

Here in Chicago that CO2 cylinder (20 lb) goes for $100.00 plus... Will you PM me what you paid ?

some gas supply places will swap out tanks so if it does end up being a lemon you may still have a chance to swap it out. also to get it pressure tested runs about 12 bucks I think.

Its 5 years on the date stamp. My local weld shop chages $25 to pressure test. I drove 15 miles to the next one and they swapped me a new aluminum tank (full) for $16.

OE Myer on SR 19 (I think) just off 288, in Galion.
They dont fill, only exchange. If you want to keep your tank they send out. I buy my welding and torch gas there, good prices.

Mid Ohio Gas in Marion (5 mins from me) will do a fill on the spot if you already have a nice tank. I'll keep this nice tank now and take it there, atleast til its expired. :lol:

the tank looks good. no sticker date on it but guage read somethinh like 550lbs. everything works. forgot the brand but will take some detail pix later

Locate a refiller and swap it out for a full one which will be in the five year hydro. Welding supply companys will generally change them out. If they are not refilling tanks at the time you will have to come back so do the swap.
