What to use to cut 2" pvc?

Go with an electric saw, even a circular one. The problem with a hacksaw is you won't get a square cut.

Use a hacksaw in a mitre box.

Thats what I do too. Cost me about $12 for the pair.

ah ok.

well I just bought a dewalt 12" miter saw and table. Even has a freakin laser guide ;) should work well I guess.

thanks!

My grandfather was a pattern-maker in a steel mill in Pittsburgh and he would disagree with you rather strongly. ;) After 3 passes, he would have a perfect cut (1 to learn the tool, 2 to be cocky, and 3 to do it right)

I had the pleasure to learn from him until I was 12 and he passed away. If there's one thing I took away, it's that you shouldn't do anything with a machine until you've mastered it by hand; no matter it be a brace and bit and a power drill or a Powermatic jointer and a Bailey #8.

Sorry to ramble - just don't discount your dad's handsaw becuase you haven't learned how to use it.

(now get off my lawn you kids)

It better be square and I don't grade on the curve.

p.s. I'm close enough to come over and make sure it's done right. (what's a 2 hour drive?)

Whats that?

it's like the miter platform with a place for a "blade" and you just put a hacksaw there instead of a miter saw.

Would something like this work to get streight cuts on 2x4's for planned stand? Sound cheaper then going out and buying a miter saw that I'll never use after the stand/hood build.

no idea. I got my miter saw to build my stand. I'll need the laser guide and the stead miter to get those super straight cuts. It would be hard with a hacksaw.

I wasn't goign to buy a miter combo either, but realized if I did get it, then I have the option of doing more projects later, so why not =)

$$$ thats why. I'm sure I can barrow one. I have a table saw, but never seem to get good cuts on 2x4's.

i have a table saw, and my cuts suck big time.

so i just got a miter saw. too bad the shelving is already built, but it will be for my display stand.

the hacksaw will be difficult to get straight cuts, because you gotta be completely straight with the saw, while the miter is on a pivot that's completely straight so I won't have any angles. It also allows for angles ;)

I bought a PVC cutter for 2" pipe on ebay for $45 brand new. Nothing else can touch it, and no cleanup after cuts.

If there's a Home Depot with a tool rental center near you, they'll have a miter saw you can rent by the day.

you guys have left out yhe cheepest tool for cutting PVC the cable cutter. i use it mainly for cutting big pvc when i only have a few cuts to make. it really good for taking down pvc that has allready hooked up.

it just a cable with 2 handles $4 or $5 . it tricky at first to start your cut. they cut great ( much better than a hack saw, once you get the hang of it). beware they get very hot, practicly melts your pvc in half!

PS. they make no mess at all.
