What's actinics good for?

nice
"So in this respect and to re-iterate what I said earlier. It is commonly banded about that Actinic tubes are purely 'cosmetic' and offer 'no useful light' to corals and other photosynthesising organisms. But the truth of it is, that that claim couldn't be more wrong. Actinic tubes such as the 'Narva Blue' kick out light at 'exactly' the wavelengths required by zooxanthellae for effective photosynthesis in the 420-480nm range, with some tubes also having a slightly wider spread into the very mild UV range.. what is notable about these tubes is that they can also induce stronger pigmentation in some corals and increase fluorescence. Either way, the fact remains that 'Actinic's' are indeed useful for photosynthesis, regardless of what myth-information is banded about. They may not be as powerful as other methods, but they can 'add'to your overall PAR intensity." from that page

Definitely brings out colors, but also helps to acclimate corals to light so they aren't shocked when Intense lights (MH/T5 HO) come on!!!
