Hey guy's, I have a ? . I'm new to reef keeping so bare with me. I just got this candy cane about three weeks ago and I would like to know what those spiny things growing out of the skeleton are. I understand that they multiply by splitting at the head. Are those branches?

If they are short and come out all around the edge , especially just after lights out then they are probably just feeder tenticals. Drop some mysis on them and see if they close up.

I can't see the picture ... could be too big for the upload. It's highly likely the "spines" are just feather duster worms. No need to worry about them.

Like most hitchhikers they can get crazy if you over feed and what not, but for the most part they are harmless. They use a mucous web to catch particulates in the water column that may irritate some coral.
