I make my own also from the store .but what is a good food with sponge in it for them?
thanks Dominic

what type of angel?
there are a couple with sponge- mega marine and angel/butterfly mix...
but with a varied diet don't really need sponge...love lrf- just a killer food, you will only get better if you make it yourself...pe Mysis, spir brine, fresh clam/shrimp, nori...

Huma's talking about Larry's Reef Frenzy -apparently it's good stuff. Are you trying to get your angels to eat or are you looking to supplement their diet with sponge? I'm not sure if sponge is "required" if your fish are already eating heartily. My angles actually won't eat the Ocean nutrition "Angel formula" that has sponge in it, but they are eating everything else.

I have been using Brightwell Aquatics Angel Elixir. Essentially a free-form amino acid food soak for Sponge eating fishes. All I know is all my angels look healthy and are growing nicely.

I do also use the Ocean Nutrition Angel Formula some. I'm not a fan of Hikari, I think it is just sponge and thus it doesn't sink and mostly ends up in the overflow, I haven't used that for years.

A balanced diet with plenty of "greens" is essential though.

the angellix thing from brightwell ... once someone from their company told me its just for taste and has no nutritional values ! I havent digged dipper though to know. but stopped using it regularly !

I have kept several large Pomacanthus (asfur, BF, Emp, annularis, majestic) and all of them thrived and were very healthy on a mix of meaty seafood, shrimp, clam, fish, large and small Mysis, and other foods mixed in for variety, nori (almost everyday), ON form. 1 & 2, and an abundance of LR to graze from. IMO you really don't need sponge for this genus as long as they get a variety of high quality seafood and algae. I have given them sponge ON and Hikari from time to time but its more about variety. The majestic I keep now loves ON form 2, even to the exclusion of fresh seafood, go figure, but he is a toad and a very large and nice looking fish on this diet.

I've heard a lot of large angels owners not even feeding sponge. I believe one of the exact quotes when I asked this same question was "If they get sponge great, if not oh well" as long as their diet is well varied and supplemented. I feed all mine mega-marine angel, along with most of the mentioned foods above. I really like ON Angel formula, and so do my angels. But our wholesalers stopped carrying it for some reason. I figure if they eat it in the wild, why not in home aquaria. That being said, it is not necessary. I have heard nothing but good things about LRS, and have been pushing it to carry in our store...

Dominic I posted pre Christmas about a group order from LRF but no takers.
Nobody in the area sells it. I will try a repost.

Contact Larry directly via his website. He's usually extremely accommodating if you're in the 2-day UPS zone, and his food is worth it.

It's true, checking the ingredient list there is no sponge, just amino acids....Frankly I use Zoecon and Selcon more, I've had this bottle a year+ and still not through it, I doubt I will reorder it as it's also priced much higher.

Oddly enough I don't really worry about feeding sponge to my larger angels (regal, majestic and annularis), but I am a huge fan of pro-salts angel diet which lists sponge as its second ingredient after krill. I have had good success using this as a first food with difficult butterflys where everything else has failed. I've tried ON's angel food but none of my fish care for it. Sponge is way down on its list of ingredients after things like peas and other terrestrial vegetables.

Unfortunately "mixed foods" are no longer readily available in Canada so I'm saving my stock for future "difficult" fish and my larger angels will have to do without sponge in their regular diet.
