Whats the next popular coral?

What do you all think the next highly sought after/collected corals are going to be? After the Duncans, Dendros, Rhizos, Acans, Micros......All of these are increasingly common and present in many people's collections.

Whats next? More aquaculture of some of the nicer micros and acans?

Super cool Trachyphyllias?

Or something new?

I vote favites\favids, then blastos... then maybe lobos.

How in the heck this hobby ends up having trends is beyond me. I search after beautiful things for my tank... unfortunately sometimes my interests cross the line with trendy and I have to pay for it but.. coral is a living being.. so weird to have fads with living beings you know?

hmm..is that rare, how much for a frag?

I think you could talk it up if you tried.....nothing quite like a tank covered in them. And you know, if you give em good lighting they do get a neat rainbow-colored hue.

Not really, thus far, the fads have been over corals or coral colors previously unseen in the US aquriaum trade. I'm not sure if it's a fad, or that a particular item becomes super popular. Once they get spread around, they aren't mentioned as much. I have noticed that popularity is an inverse function of distribution. :D

I have to say that all the corals that are mentioned above as fads have all been some of the most attractive colored animals. I just bought some dendros and they are and will be the most attractive corals in tank as well as the most expensive. Unfortunately your going to pay the price for the better looking pieces so is that really a fad or a premium on the best looking?

I'd say these aussie acans will take over for awhile. Their color is just insane.

I agree... Aussies are going to be the next big thing... Especially after they become more readily available in the US...

I already considered them as the "now" in thing. I'd like to see more come our way though they are spectacular

Maybe if Aptasia became the next "big thing" they'd suddenly become hard to find and impossible to keep alive?...lol.

I'm not sure if its going to be some new kind of coral but I think the corals that are currently extremely popular like zoos, rics, acans, dendros, etc will become even more popular as people find rarer or more exotic color morphs.

I find myself drooling at all the cool zoos that certain sites have and I'm sure people feel that way about some of the crazy aussie acans that diamondsinthereef, darklordcoral, etc have all got in.

I see the popular corals continue to be popular with a big emphasis on more exotic color morphs.

ALSO, if people start getting into cold water tanks like Steve Weast did, then I see a huge popularity in some cool cold water anemones like waratahs anems, strawberry corals, etc. If anyone has seen the thread in the advanced topics of Steve Weasts cold water tank, that should speak for itself!

Mike

Afraid to say but I think these Aussies will go by the wayside. Appearently these crazy color morphs can be brough in at any time. As numerous as these are the prices will fall thru the roof. Most sites have already cut their prices because they know more are comming.

Yeah agreed, that could certainly be it. Nice stuff never goes out of style.
