hey guys
i know i might not have all the answers for everyone buti'm starting to think some people are looking for a better way to meet so i'm suggesting maybe i weekly aol chat. so at this point in time i'll start this by suggesting a chat on lets say 8pm on tues 14th i'm acting here by myself and not as a bod memberso i don't want this to be a bashing toward anyone just a friendly chat about our tanks, family .......
let use this as a fresh start for the new members to get to know some of the old members.
if you don't want to post your info you can ask people to pm you for that info and you can chose who you want to have that part of your life.
my aol aim is bmkindig so i'm easy to find i person have a long list of reefers on my buddy list so i know a lot of you.let's see if this can work.
thank you in advance

Just an FYI..if you want to do something regularly I'm around in the evenings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the week. Tuesdays and Thursdays I do some "volunteer" type work...I'm gone from 7am to 10pm.

hey kevin
mondays are bad for me and tuesday's i usually work at night but i'm on vacation as of thurs. night this weekend up going away that's why i picked tues.

Yeah chat is a nice idea. I know that reef central has an IRC chat room and I hang in there a lot of times but there usually isn't too much going on. We could maybe consider starting a chat room on the same server as the reef central one that way we could hang out in the reef central room as well as have our own room for just us to talk. If anyone likes this idea and needs help with IRC let me know I have been using IRC for many years now and am fairly proficient at it. If not my AIM name as well is shimmy yaz187

Tuesdays Wednesdays work for me. Thanks for asking, hope it works out. Should I get AIM, don't have it.

I'd like to sit in on the meeting. I'll see if I can get AIM to work. Usually I can only get Microsoft Messenger to work.

Thanks for the offer Todd!

Is there anyway we could do this? I am having a hell of a time getting AIM to work on the company network. They have some tight security.

Hey it was great chatting last night and I feel that is a very good way to express and discuss our ideas and opinions. I am still going to look into what I can find out about adding chat to the NCPARS site and still have to get in contact with Fizz about it.

We do have 2 available to us through our host that are up and running all the time which I really don't like....It's our bandwidth and any hacker could catch on to it and abuse it. Although that's not my main reason for not liking them.

I also tested a bunch of others...I just didn't like them either...too laggy.

I replied to your PM shimmy...feel free to play. :)

I should also add this...

AIM was picked as our tool for couple of reasons that you should keep in mind as anybody plays with different tools.

#1. AOL users are generally..and I say generally so exceptions should take no offence...but are generally one of two types of people: novice internet users, and people stuck someplace with no high speed internet service. Because of the large volume of novice users..it makes it readily available to them and still available to those NOT on AOL that know what they're doing.

#2. AIM puts alot of time and money into getting a product that works for just about everybody. As an IT consultant I have a LOT of experience with web applications. Thanks to spammers, phishers, viruses and the general run of the mill hackers there are TONS of different security methods out there...personal firewalls, physical (hardware) firewalls, router settings, browser settings..and some others I probably didn't think of. Finding a product that works can be tough. We have a tool at my company called Lotus Sametime Meeting. It's an awesome product with chat room, drawing board, and even screen sharing and screen control capabilities. The down side? I have a 50-50 success ratio with getting it to work with my clients. And in every case..it's some sort of firewall or internet setting..not the software.

#3..It's event driven with a server side service running. I hit send, you get it. Most chatrooms are..I hit send, you get it when you auto-refresh.... Which is laggy, makes the screen blink and generally just s*cks. :)

#4.. It's free.
