I just set up my 75 gal DT Sunday, using dry rock that I seeded with live and cycled in a rubbermaid for approx 2 months. I don't remember all of my numbers but I saw the expected rise in ammonia and nitrates though my levels never got super high (I missed the nitrites, I only tested every few days). A month or so later I tossed about 1/2 tsp of fish pellets into the rubbermaid with the rock just to see if I'd get an ammonia spike - nothing. Set up was with live sand also.
The plumbing all checks out except the skimmer - it is a used Vertex Omega 150 and is overflowing like crazy. I need to raise it up on a platform, which I will stop and get after work tomorrow. Hoping that will fix the problem (the guy I bought it from, very trustworthy person in my local reef club, suggested this). Lights are hung. The water cleared up right away and looks crystal now.
I checked today - ammonia, nitrites and nitrates all 0.
I have a pair of clowns ready to move to their new home, they have been through TTM and quarantine for a month-ish - eating well and happy.
When is it safe to move them?
