Looking for the best place to order LR from. I'm sure they area all getting nearly the same stuff, so it may not make a huge difference. Looking for around 40lbs.

any input is appreciated.

and.....?

what size box? how many peices per box? lots of rubble?

Maybe you can't remember all of that,

Thanks for your response.

Daniel

Receiving live rock tonite from Tampa Bay Saltwater. Have heard that it is the best rock around. Suppose to have lots and lots of life on it. Everything i've seen in the LFS and some online seem to be barren. Checkout there site. Check out the testimonies. Will reply again after i unpack it.

Got mine from Reefermadness.us last time. I called the order in and asked for certain shapes and all 45 pounds they delivered were just what I wanted. :)

Reefermadness sounds like a good choice. I'm affraid of "drop shipped" live rock.

again, more places to check out

thanks again guys.

here is the deal:

liveaquaria - decent rock, but nothing all that special

tampa bay/gulfview.com - aquacultured rock from the gulf of mexico, really nice, many more life forms, more expensive and possibly annoying because some gulf life doesn't work so well in a reef.

I have both, and i was much more happy with the gulfview rock, but the liveaquaria rock was decent and cheap.

I'm certainly not going to TBS way. My tank will be a bb sps reef. I don't really need all the "life" on the rock so to speak. From what I've seen of the rock, most already has lots of sponges, algaes and hitchiker crabs.

to each his own.

I was thinking live aquaria...not to sure about caribbean lr..I'll check it out now, thanks.

I was very impressed with mine. Yes TBS is awesome but at 6 bucks a pound it gets very expensive very quick.

I got mine (2 years ago) from Tampa Bay Saltwater. Beautiful rock. If there's a downside to it, it seems as though the shapes tend to be dull and boulder-like. Great stuff though. Pics below are from the 1st half of my shipment, plus one surprise I hadn't counted on!

Here was the surprise...a baseball-sized octopus that plopped out of a rock when I picked it up. Scared the heck out of me. I tried to set up a small tank and keep it alive, but it only lasted a couple of days. Bummer.

Nebraskareef:

Yeah. It probably was able to survive because TBS packs in bags of water and ships via the airlines, so I had the rock (still submerged) only hours after it was packed. I tried to get a local LFS to take him, but he wasn't interested and didn't have the means to house him. I felt bad that he ultimately died, but I don't know what I could have done. I sure wasn't prepared for an octopus!

BTW, I realize that you said you weren't interested in TBS, but posted the photos for the benefit of others who might be tagging along. ;-)

Since you are in Lincoln, I would go with Premium Aquatics you are probably in the 2 day ups zone and can save on the shipping cost. Plus you can order exact quanity of rock in pounds.

I got 50lbs from them, I asked for big pieces, I was happy with what I got, but I think my UPS lady threw it from the truck as she drove by, there was some branch and a big acro head that were pretty busted up. The acro head still looked good, and the branch fills in the gaps nicely.
