Im VERY slowly working on my final upgrade, and want to do a tall tank with an eloborate pillar......but I cant find acrylic rods anywhere? Anybody have links?

Acrylic rod is available from usplastic.com pretty cheap. I've shopped around a lot for different projects and always end up ordering from them. They pack it well in nice shipping tubes and have reasonable shipping rates.

Or... a guy I know used fiberglass rod for his pillars and it worked out very nicely. You can get pretty strong fiberglass rod from Tractor Supply or Agway. It's usually used for electric fences, etc.

I guess Ill have to ask another ? then..........are people using extruded or cast acrylic for inserting into Live Rock Pillars? Sometimes, in Life, I just wish there was simply just one selection for something............

I just redid some of the rockwork in my tank today using fiberglass rods. I went to Home Depot and bought some of the reflectors on a stick to mark your lawn by the road. They were like $2.50 each or something like that. They are 3 feet long I think, worked great.

On something like that, either will work. The real difference between the 2 comes when you start cutting, drilling, or machining the acrylic...cast machines 100x better than extruded.

There is a great link here on RC for DIY suppliers... http://www.reefcentral.com/diy/

Here's another thought, use nylon all thread. I did and worked out great! Your able to really attach the rocks to all thread using washers and nuts. I got it all from US plastics for really cheap.
