Where to buy peacock mantis online?

How do I change this?
So far I've only heard of/seen places "occasionally" getting them in but never regularly stocking them. Anyone know of a place that usually has them in stock?

Saltwaterfish.com has been very good to me in the past and usually have peacock mantis on a regular basis. The downside, is buying mantis from them is expensive imo.

Dude, just go into a lfs that sells liverock and ask them to hold on to one for you. Some might give you one for free, or offer them like $5.00.. most LFS use them as Trigger food anyways.
. leave your Number, or ask when they get their shipments and call just before to remind them.

Slylie - the original post asked for a "peacock" mantis in particular. The O. Scyllarus mantis does not hitchhike on live rock, they are tunnel builders. Getting an O.S. will necessitate ordering one specifically.

Also, stores that don't know what they are ordering will sometimes get G. Smithiis as peacocks. They aren't. They are a beatiful mantis in their own right, though.

Can't help you on finding one. FF Express used to carry them, maybe the Doctors will still have them. Good luck.

Python> Ah.. was a bit too quick to type without reading properly :)

What is a colorfull species of smasher that doesn't grow too big?

like max 4-5 inches?

Well, colorful is in the eye of the beholder. O.S. are pretty much the Coke (or Pepsi) of the mantis world in the hobby color wise. There are some real sweet looking Squilla mantis, but they are spearers, and some of them will lose their colors in your tank.

I like the G. Smithii and the G. Chiragra in addition to the O.S. Pretty sure they both stay a few cm smaller adult size. Not sure exactly where you'd get either of these guys, some luck out and get G. Smithii on their liverock. If you want a small smasher, you could always go with the G. Wennerae. Easy to acquire, they come in Florida liverock from TBS and Gulfview. Both places will sell you one without the rock. They stay small, under 3" and are quite attractive. One of mine is lime neon green and the other is brown/green with reddish trim.

I just got off the phone with Inland Aquatics. The gentleman I spoke with, Mike, said he has a gorgeous 5" Peacock Mantis in stock. Only one though, he's trying to order more of them. He said it was DEFINITELY a Peacock. They are asking $45.00 for it and will ship. Send them an email if you want it!

peacock mantis 25 bux

peacock mantis 25 bux

i ordered my peacock mantis from www. fishsupply.com i paid 25 bux 4 him and the ppl there were wonderful And they did an excellent packing job now the shipping charges did bring the total up 2 70 bux but he was well worth it

I ordered my "peacock" from Inland Aquatics and when my "G Smithi" arrived I was a bit disapointed by couldn't return him so I now have a Smithi instead of a peacock. They assured me it was a peacock. just be warned, identifiying mantis can be a bit tricky.

bad ppl!!!

bad ppl!!!

omigosh im so sorry 2 hear that happened 2 u! if i were u id call them an argue. if they told u it was a peacock they should make good on that thats not right@all if i were u id call them and demand your money back or atleast demand a new mantis. a peacock this time 4 all the trouble u went thru good luck!:eek2:

That sucks Newreefers. I'd make sure you know that what they sent you is unacceptable. "They are hard to ID." Bunk. Five minutes on RC doing searches for G.S. and O.S. will get you several VIVID pictures, some with descriptions from GonoD. Is it reaaly that hard to tell meral spots from a white lined pattern?

You have to think of this. I have a heck of a time telling a juvenile koran from a juvie annularis. But I DON'T SELL FISH! If I ordered one of those, and they shipped me the other, I sure would be jacked. Get them to AT LEAST comp you on a future order.

ps - not to say Smithiis aren't sweet... because they are.
