Ok, so here it is: I need to buy a new digital camera. Tell me your stories and give examples of how and why your camera is the one I should get. I want something that shows great coral color and is also easy to use to send decent/normal sized pics via email. I want to know what brand, make, and style/model I should get. Any and all info is appreciated. Thanks!
 
You obviously should get a Canon EOS 20D with the 24-70L lens. It will only set you back about $2.5 grand together.

But in all seriousness, I've always liked the Canon Powershot line of cameras. My trusty S400 is an awesome camera with some manual control. If you can get one of the newer (thinner) powershots thats what I would suggest.
 
I use a CANON EOS 30D DSLR. 8.2 megapixels, pretty expensive but an absolutly BRILLIANT camera! how much r you looking a spending? cause thats what it comes down too.

If you are looking for pocket size look at the Canon Powershots. I love the new 3" LCD screen on my new SD630. If you want something a little larger the A620 is still one ofthe highest rated cameras around. For unbiased reviews go to www.dpreview.com .
 
Yup, dpreview has great reviews. Also forgot the 30D is out now (is it?).

Now I have to choose, photography and upgrade my hacked-firmware 300D or reef tank....

But the 24-70L lens is a cool $1k :) Its the best normal range zoom lens made by Canon.

Nikon has always been a contender as well. I'd try out some Nikons and Canons and see what you like the feel of better. I've personally never liked Olympus cameras. Also compare a few reviews at DPreview.com. They go very indepth.
 
I use the Canon Digital Rebel XT as well. I still have the kit lense which isn't that great as you might have read, but it's better then nothing. Here is a picture that took yesterday of a fellow reefer's zoos. You can get set up with everything you need for around 800 bucks most likely.

There are too many options. More info like price range, pocket size, point and shoot, DSLR? I have a Nikon D50 DSLR and a Canon S400 and like them both for different reasons.

A very versatile camera is a Canon S2 IS or S3 IS.
 
Personally, just about any camera that you can manually control the focus. The digital focusing sucks for trying to take pictures of your tank. Nikon, Canon, etc is a matter of opinion from there.
 
well i had a camera that years ago was like $200, and it wokred great at taking pics even macro and movies, but it has since stopped working. I could spend $180 to get it fixed, but would rather use that money and some more to buy a good camera that is well worth it in the long run. Maybe something around $500?
 
i had honestly been leaning towards Kodak's or Sony, and never even gave a thought to a canon, but I will definitely check them out know!
 
The 400D is a lot more than $500 (DSLR). Take a look at the Canon S3 IS. It is supposed to have a good macro. It is a "12x super zoom" with image stabilization. Not useful for taking pics of the tank, but can be in other circumstances.
 
I use a Sony N1 for regular tank shots and family pics, I use an old 5mp sony f717 with a macro/wide angle lens. The f717 is fairly cheap now on ebay and worth every penny . the N1 is awsome but you cant put a different lens on it .
