Following. I too have been looking into them.

A lot of folks are waiting for the Apex Neptune Alk controller. It will easily interface with their DOS system. The only issue is it will require the newest version of the Apex and is not backward compatible. There's some threads on it on the BAR equipment pages because we had at least one member that Beta tested it last year.

Yeah the trident one sounds great. How it tests all three chemicals. But the ghl one auto doses alk based on the levels.

I'll probably get the trident tho.

The Trident will auto dose as well. YOu'll simply program it to run a doser when the Alk falls below any specified level.

I was thinking this is how it would work as well. However, when I spoke to the Neptune folks at Reefapalooza they said it actually wasn't a good idea because if the Trident had an incorrect reading or something got out of whack, then the Apex could potentially overdose the tank. It's best to use the Trident for testing only, then change the amount to dose manually through the Apex.

That said, I'm hoping they'll figure out a way to have it safely dose based on the Trident's results. Maybe there will be a way to have the Apex read the test results for say a day, and if all are within certain parameters, then the Apex would dose based on the average. I hope that makes sense. As a safeguard, maybe an alert could be set so that if the Apex is dosing more or less than usual, you'll get a text or email.

Issue with that. If it tests. And than you manually dose according to those results. You can over dose if the trident fails.

Well, unfortunately that's the same with any test. The Trident and others like it merely automate the testing process. If I were to buy a Trident, I would definitely use another test method periodically to cross-check the results.

Exactly, so Neptune claiming it wasn't a good idea because possible incorrect reading. That holds true for all testing.

But I think I would cross check too.

The idea is that they want your brain in between testing and dosing, not automatic

There is no one beta testing the Trident in BAR that I know of. There has been discussions about it but I don't recall anyone saying they were beta testing it.
