Im looking into getting an ozone generator for my skimmer but im not sure which unit to go with. I have a 125g with a 40g sump and wanted a unit that would regulate. Ive been looking at the enlay, aquamedic, sanders, and the redsea unit but am torn as to which would be safest and most effective. Anyone have any experience with any of these generators?

without sounding like I know too much or like I am a commercial outfit ,I would like to tell you from my experience the red sea worked well for me for several years till I upgaded to a larger unit (commercial sized) due to my large volume of water . just make sure you regenerate the dessicant beads regularly to help maintain good efficientcy of the unit and be carful

I've seen some good prices on www.reeftanksupply.com as far as the AquaZones go... I almost got one but decided to put the money into another peice of equipment!

Sander has been making ozone units for decades. besides it german made you can't go wrong

I use a Red Sea with the ORP controller. After a year it has gone erratic and in my experience the ORP controller is not completely necesary and can be replaced by a more sturdy ORP meter.
For your aquarium I would recomend a uit fo up to 100 mg/hr although I have not tried yet if I have to replace mine I would try the Sander.
Remember that for efficiency you need a good air dryer. get the larger you can get or get two as you do not want to regenerate the silica every three days)
Also you will need Ozone compatible tubing. The black made of Norprene (NOT Neoprene) or pure silicon would be my selection.
In addition you need means to inject it trough the air suction of your skimmer insuring that all skimmer fittings and O rings are Ozone compatible. You may need to replace the typical black Buna N o Ricng for the Red Silicon O Rings, you can get the O rings at www.mcmaster.com.
Also you need a good air pump that you can regulate the flow, my preferred one in the Lift pump which you can get from the doctors.

For everyday use and Skimmer performance he normal dosage is relatively small (less than 25 mg/hr) use the maximum only if you are having some low quality water issues (Low ORP below 300mV) or when your fish are sick. And do not forget, you need to use activated Carbon 24/7 in the skimmer outlets (Water as well as air vent)

I would get the 50mg certizon you can order it from fishsupply.com. You don't need much ozone to make your tank clean. If you are going to upgrade in the near future you can buy the 100 mg model.
