Sounds like the mucus froma vermitide worm

Na but they can be if near sps IMO . The mucus picks up particles and such which the worm feeds off of . Some times these long spider web deals can get tangled in an sps and bring detritus to the coral . I have one in a cap that brings a nice lil pile of crap each day to the cap and I have to blow it off. I just havent killed it yet.

I have them in my tank and leave 'em be.

...but they can be pesty.

IMO a few here and there aren't bad. It's when they reproduce that things start going bad. They are also much more annoying when they get large.

Yup, mine were cute when I had 3 large ones. Now I have about 4 dozen! They always have a party in my tank during water changes.
Now they are a nusiance!

i have a few large ones ingulfing my rocks. and it sticks to high he double l when you clen it off. mind you i only have a 65 gallon.
