white spot disease?

A couple days ago I purchased a 3" max.

Today I noticed what seem to be pinholes around the perimiter of the mantle.

Otherwise, it seems really healthy.

Is this the dreaded white spot disease?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Petrlin98,

I don't have a pic.

Is it normal for a max clam to have what look like pinholes about 1/4" from outside edge of mantle? They follow the shape of the mantle exactly.

I assume that white spot disease leaves white spots on mantle?

Also, these nasty little snails that attack clams, how big are they & do they get on top of the mantle, under the mantle or both? I looked for snails before placing it in tank & found none. Is there a telltale sign for snail damage?

Thanks,

Joe

I don't think it's normal for a maxima clam to have pinholes, besides the exhalent siphon and incurrent siphon.
I often find snails on the shell of my clams. The parasitic snail that I recognize and remove are the pyramid snails. These are small (grain size, smaller than rice), ivory. You can find them close to the foot (byssal opening). These snails do not cause pinholes. I see clams that show sign of being unhappy - mantle retracted..and soon died.
