white streak in mantle

I have a 2" max that developed a white streak down the center of the mantle.

Mantle is fully extended.

Is their a treatment?

Is it contagiuos?

Thanks,
Joe

I have had this happen to a couple of my ultra maximas...I think it was in response to the lighting I put them under. As a matter of fact, most of the black markings disappeared at the same time as those white streaks appeared (one on each side of the mantle). This has not happened with any of the other clams I have. The clams look even better now IMO and they have been like this for months so I wouldn't worry if I were you :)

I don't have a pic, but Knop's Giant Clam book does, and my clam's problem is described as white spot disease, caused by a protozoa and very contagious. Real bad news for me.

One drug that one guy reported success with is listed, I could not find it. I did get some Clout which is supposed to kill protozoa.

The white streak runs down the middle of the clam from one end to the other and completely involves the siphon tube. It came on fast. I'll post the results of my longshot effort.

OK...that sounds different than what my clams had...in my case it was more of an irridescent marking down the lengths of the mantle that clearly came from the clam adjusting to my lighting. I have seen a form of the white spot disease, and that was very different looking than what I posted about... but don't get too alarmed about the WSD, I think there are a few forms of it and not all are death sentences for the clams/contagious. I have dealt with a form of WSD on a crocea that I purchased mid-Dec of last year and the spots eventually went away and never showed up on any other of my clams.

Well I lost 3 max clams & 3 clams were unscathed ( 2 crocea, 1 max).

If I had QTd from the gitgo, I would only have lost 1 max. Beleive me, I've already beat myself up pretty good on this.

Don't use Clout on clams, it killed them faster than WSD. I knew that might happen, but I felt doing nothing was a certain death sentence.

If I ever encounter WSD again, I will do nothing besides QT until I find the drug that might work according to Knop's Giant Clams.

This disease is very contagious and comes on real fast.
