I Posted this originally in New To Hobby, understand it may be a Mantis ? can anyone confirm.

"A month ago, one of my cleaner shrimps disappearred never to be seen again. A couple of weeks ago the second cleaner shrimp disappeared - never to be seen again

Last week I put in a new sea star and could not find it - until today - looking like this

And a little later like this

So Who Dunnit and how can I seek my revenge on them ? :mad2:
P.S. The star is doomed isn't it

Your thoughts before I loose more victims pls

Current tank Inhabitants (2x clown 1x Psuedochromis 1x small yellow tail Damsel, 2x Enchistars, some snails and feather dusters etc)."

Not saying it is a pistol because it may not be, but I have heard pistols will prey on starfish. My pistol attacked one of my starfish and is now living in a tank of its own for now. In my opinion, we need a little more info before ruling out either the pistol or mantis.

I have never had any issues with my knobby star and peacock mantis. Not to mention the peacock is surely considerably larger than a potential mantis you may have, AND it specifically eats invertebrates...

I have a large srerpent star in with my G. Platysoma mantis, and he ignores it. Actually, he doesn't ignore it completely, he throws his leftovers around the corner from his cave entrance, where it lives and watches it grab the table scraps...

My N Wennerae also doesn't bother a small star in his tank.

As for revenge...should you catch either a mantis or a pistol, they could be sold to a LFS, with the credit going towards a new star.
Sorry for your loss.
