I'm interested in getting a group of them and I'm curious from those with experience will they get along with my two blood shrimp? Do the really clean amenomes(specifically my RBTA)? Average lifespan? Likelihood of breeding? Also any tips or pointers...thanks in advance!

Sexy shrimp enjoy my ricordeas in my 10g. I don't believe there is too many benefits of having it host anemones as they pretty much only steal food. They are more of just something to have. I had two sexy shrimp living perfectly fine with a fire shrimp.

Any extra scavenging would help but I pretty much like that they bring a little something different to my system. Thanks for the input!

Lol, they definitly add alot of movement to the tank in large numbers. I currently only have two.. but I plan on getting ten more and the tank is only a 10g :spin3:

Tank is nothing but corals, 2 harlequin shrimp, and 70 or more hitchhikers I've found within the past month :uhoh2:. They definitly add alot of life in there jumping around from coral to coral. Sometimes I have trouble finding the two I already have :wildone:

I need all the CUC I can get with these harlequin shrimp starfishing all the time, the fire worms do a pretty good job so far :p

I might even consiture not having so many as they might breed and become overwhelming :crazy1: But I'm sure the tangs wouldn't find them in teh gigantic 125

I've had a group of sexys in a nano with blood shrimp with zero issues.

And people are going to disagree with this... but I'm pretty sure I caught them eating certain SPS polyps on occasion. And while that sounds nuts, it was a recurring problem of finding them on SPS bald spots, eating. The obvious conclusion is that they were eating necrotic tissue. But the problem started when I got the sexys, and ended totally when I got rid of them.

IMO sexys nibble on some SPS. You heard it here first...

That's interesting! And I definitely heard it here first. Did you ever do further research on that?

No. And I've never heard any other reefer say this - which clearly call my observations into question. But I'm certain of my observations. And the recurring issue (as in happening every few days since the week I got them) ceased immediately when I got rid of them a year or so later, and has never returned.

Go figure.

This experience doesn't surprise me. I used to have two of sexy shrimp some years ago and they would always hang out on a Euphyllia, frequently tear out bits of tissue and eating it. No doubt they are/can be coral eaters. Never seemed to do any permanent damage though...maybe because it was a large coral and they had many polyps to choose from.

Interesting. I had one that liked to hang out in my frogspawns. Didnt cause permanent damage but they would always be closed up. I relocated him to my frag tank and frog spawns opened right back up. No issues since.

I don't know if they clean anemones, but mines don't. I have a Rock Flower nem and a mini maxi, and the sexy never comes close to them. In fact they live between yhe branches of my hammer, but also enjoy the Ricordeas. If you are looking for an small cleaner Shrimp my Pedersonis do that very well.

When I only had 2 sexy shrimps, they used to wander around the tank away from each other. As soon as I added a 3rd one, they automatically hosted on my BTA as a group and have never stayed farther than 2 inches away from it. They are very fun to watch but can be really annoying then they steal the BTA's food! They also eat the anemone's feces. I know kinda gross : /
