Will a smasher mantis eat urchins?

I've got a mantis in my 10g tank at work. This was supposed to be my "low maintainance" tank after I got a 50g at home. Unfortunately, since my mantis eventually eats any hermit crabs or snails I put in the tank, even with water changes it is algae city, probably because it still has reef lighting (36w) for the shrooms in it. My LFS said that a mantis MIGHT leave an urchin alone, but that I should do some research. For the most part, my mantis is a lazy hunter--it knows that it's getting fed a nice chunk of fish every two days, so it only picks up the hermit crabs that were left over from the previous occupants at about the rate of one every two weeks. If worse comes to worse, I'll just drop 30 of them in there and let them do the work, but this isn't very economical and they would be very slow compared to an urchin. Does anyone know if an urchin would be safe, especially since mine is pretty lazy about feeding?

They will smash them. I have a buddy who took a chance and put a long spined urchin in his tank, with a peacock. the mantis took out a quarter sized hole, in the urchin.

How long did the urchin last? If I could keep it in there for even a week, it would at least give me a start on getting the algae under control.

I had no problems keeping a peacock and an atlantic urchin together, for about four or five months. YMMV, but that was my experience.

I think I'll risk it; they're pretty cheap at my LFS, and worst case scenario, Smashy will get a tasty snack.
