Will a trigger eat soft corals and clams?

depends on the species of trigger...Xanthichthys, blue throats, crosshatch etc.. are among the safest for a reef, but get large.

+1...

My BT's won't touch coral of any type, or clams (unless they are the feeder types from the grocery store), but I've seen Rhinecanthus reek havoc on them...

Depends on the trigger type and individual fish...

I will admit though that my BTs had a habbit of moving corals around the tank before I started gluing them down...
