Will trade frags for T5 lights

I'm looking to put T5 atinics over my 40 breeder, I can trade with my SPS frags. The tank is 36", two or four bulb combination is fine, but needs reflectors. Thanks.

t5's

t5's

i should have a 4 bulb 36 inch t5 from sls available for a very reasonable price once my 24 inch oceanic arrives (expected 4/9. then i need you to build a stand)

Jp says is 200 + shipping, i havent saved up the money for it yet, im at 165 dollars right now, plus another 40 coming in during april vacation, im taking care of neighbors dog!

where did yo uget yours!?

where is this light setup on JP's site?
can i get a link, i looked around but i dont see it,
i am interested in a 4x36" t5 setup

i would also like a t5 setup. but it would have to outdo my halides. so id have to get 6-8 bulbs.
but i think i would like to eventualy get a canopy, another 150 watt halide retro, retro mine from my existing hood, and then a few t5s.
but i think im going going to take appart this fixture for a retro:

i got my halides from odyssea dn this site. great price. the halides are great too form what ive experienced, the bulbs are not the greatest, but those can be replaced with the best and still cost less than an aqualight. lol

I think you'd be surprised it is to outdo 150 HQI halides with T5s (especially if they are overdriven). Check out The Grim Reefer's comparisons between his T5s and his 150 HQI with actinics setup. The T5s were considerably brighter.

In order for T5's to have a fighting chance against halides you need a quality reflector, one for each lamp. The ones listed from Aquatraders and many of the other inexpensive setups use a single reflector for all the lamps. Once you add the quality reflectors (IceCap or SLS) you might as well purchase a TekLight, IceCap retro or an Aquatinics fixture and have an all around quality product that isn't likely to catch fire.
Just my 2 cents!

I agree with Jon. You can't just "buy T5s" like you can "buy PCs". The light output of units with the same number of bulbs will not be even close to equal. See Sunlight Supply's LUX readings of a bulb with no relector, a flat reflector, a cheap parabolic, and their parabolic. If I remember right the nice parabolic reflector put out about triple what the flat reflector did.

If anyone doubts what T5s can do borrow the club's PAR meter and stop by my place. I'll bet you a frag of something really nice that my 4 bulb IceCap T5 setup will beat a dual 150 HQI or dual 175 SE setup (the halides must be using bulbs that you would use on your main tank... no 6500k yellow PAR creating monsters).

Kroe-
Do I see a showdown? I'd like to see who wins out between the SLS Tek and the IceCap. Can I bring a pair of ReefOptix 3 250's with a pair of BLV 10k's?
Jon

Do you have a 4 bulb Tek? I'll put my IceCap up against a four bulb tek any day (though I don't think the tek has much of a shot).

Oh... and NO... you can't bring 250s... that will smoke my T5s ;). Well you can... just for kicks, but no bet on that one.

4 lamp 24w Tek. Running 4 6500k mid-day's :D
I'll leave the salt creep on the glass shields of the 250's... at least give you a fighting chance!

We really should take better advantage of the club's PAR meter... we should come up with a set of measurements, and everyone who borrows it should try to do those measurements and post results with various setups. This would be valuable not just to us but to reefcentral as a whole.

Sounds like a plan Kroe. If there is a set standard for measurements I'll gladly contribute some results.
Back to our regularly scheduled programming...

i got mine from foster smith. its a current fixture. i think the light output is fine and i dont want to spend another 150 or so dollars for hallide or for an icecap thing. plus the tank its over is only a foot so i cant complain

i figured i would have to get individual reflectors, but i didnt think that they would be like 26 bucks each (plus shipping). so if i get 4 of those, that is like 120. plus the 90 bucks and shipping of like 25-30 probably. id end up paying over 200 bucks! i could get the nova fixture for less than that. but i dont think those have individual reflectors?
this is what i REALY want. the 8-bulb version. *drool*

anyone want to lend me 400 bucks?:D i can mow lawns, do dishes, anything!

Look at the dimensions on that 8 bulb tek... I think it is way too wide for a 29. I know that there is no way I could fit more than 4 IceCap SLR reflectors over my 55.

Price out a 4 bulb setup with IceCap reflectors and ballast. It will rock... but a quality T5 setup costs just as much as halides.

If you want to save money by going T5 I think you are barking up the wrong tree... Only quality (individual reflector) T5 setups are significantly better than PCs, and quality T5 setups are more in the halide price range than the PC price range.
