Wiring a float switch???

I plan on useing a Maxi Jet to pump in fresh water for the auto top off. With the use of a float switch, do I need to cut the wiring of the power head? Or is there a plug in module of some sort available for this? I would like to avoid splicing the power head wiring if possible? Any pictures or schmatics would be appreciated.

I bought a cheap extension cord and spliced into that instead, figuring I might use the pump elsewhere in the future. I'm sure theres better solutions out there, but this was a nice cheap $5 fix.

The one thing you should be aware of in connecting the float switch this way is that you will then have 110V running through the float switch, which is in your water. If something goes wrong, you might just have 110V running through your sump.

Just something to be aware of.

Not to mention the fact the currents involved will be hard on the micro reed switch housed in the floatswitch assembly.

Use a transformer and a relay.

Dammit.. Bean beat me to it.

Yup. A transformer and a relay. You have 12V going through the switch to your relay. When the switch comes on, it energizes the relay, which then closes and gives 110V power to your pump.

Ask Bean about where to get em though, I haven't started shopping for those yet, but will be soon. Do you have a link Bean?

Ratshack has em... abliet kinda spendy... (maybe $8) but you will not be able to find much cheaper with shipping online.
