Whats the best type of wood to use to creat a canopy out of. Would MDF board be a good choice of wooD?

no, i wouldnt use mdf.

use a nice laminate wood to make it out of. i mena, its aesthetics.. you could make an mdf canopy, but you would need to do a lot of work to make it look nice. like put veneer over it:lol

ive built a couple canopies - my first one was made of poplar. the second is made out of clear pine and some plywood. the key to using wood is to make sure that you use a good sealer (like spar varnish) on the inside cause the water and lights are very hard on the wood - and then paint or stain the outside and keep in mind that it will get wet too.

year clear pine for the whole thing i'm a cabinet maker and with a good stain and top coat it'l be and look beautiful

Dont use mdf.

mdf if is just wod shavings turned into dust compressed and clued together.

once it gets wet it swells rots and falls apart.

if i recall correctly.

pine is what id suggest. cheap, nice to work with, and can look beautifull.

What is clear pine? I once built a canopy out of a solid piece of pine, and the thing warped like crazy. If it was me, I would build it out of laminated plywood. It looks good, and is cheap. You just have to make sure you add on triming to hide the plywood part.

As other have said - make sure you seal it up well. :D

I wouldn't use mdf as it is not stable in a wet/damp enviroment. I would use a white oak since it has natural decay resistance.

Just my opinion .,,,,, I may be wrong

confused yet ? Teak would be a great choice, but at $16.00 a bf you might want to cash in a couple shares of your Berkshire Hathoway.
Given the choice between clear pine and poplar, I'd go with poplar. With poplar you won't be digging through the entire lumber rack to find descent material. As to solid lumber or plywood, it depends on the size of your project. If none of the panels are more 12 to 16 or so inches wide, solid wood would probably be fine. But much wider than that you would be better off using plywood.(wood moves much more across the grain than it's length) Most of all it depends on your woodworking skills, and the tools you have access to. have fun
