Worried about Candy Coral! (Caulastrea curvata)

Eric,

Nobody seems to have any idea about this... Came home yesterday and two polyps had broken off the main body(Caulastrea curvata). When I went to adjust the coral the skeleton along the fracture was very soft and spongy. I rubbed off the spongy material and put it back in place. Any idea what the problem is? Anything I should be doing?

Sounds like bioeroding sponge. lots of them, and a natural method of fragmentation. From now on, please, ask these sorts of questions in the Coral Forum. This forum is for questions relating to my articles in Reef Keeping. Thanks
