WTB: 240g cube with stand

If anyone has a tank in this range, and is thinking of posting it for sale, please drop me a note first as I'd love to make a first offer.

That's a tall order Double J. Have you looked into a custom tank? The cost might not be as prohibitive as one might initially think.

What has attracted you to that particular tank? The Marineland DD tanks have a 150 cube model, and the 200 is 4x3'.

Just spitballing some ideas back atcha

I'm tired of the standard rectangular tank with linear rock work and linearly swimming fish. I also know I like lots of empty, clean space.

I've been wanting to split up my mixed reef tank (125g 72") into a more pure reef with tangs (cube) and a FOWL tank with agressive fish (rectangle).

I also would like to start moving into some SPS (from LPS and softies only), and just like the looks of cube tanks.

Originally thinking 60g cube, but if I can find bigger... why not? I'll probably end up with a standard 180g for the other tank.

Not sure what your budget is, but give ABC (or your preferred LFS) a call for a quote. If you go new, I don't think a custom tank would be much more than a prefab tank. Like I said, the largest cube, factory tank, I can think of is the Marineland 150.

As for used, I have seen them go by in the past. Try a search on the used forum, who knows, might get lucky. I don't envy anyone who has to move a tank of that size (assuming you're looking to go glass vs acrylic).

- Never thought a custom would be close to a large pre-fab. Wonder if I could find someone local to do one in acrylic???

- I'm in the process of buying/selling and would want to make the deal for the new tanks now, and then pickup after the move is done.

Millie at Caribbean Forrest in Rochester does acrylic work. I'm not sure to what degree or scale. She is quite a good fabricator, but, the word on the street is, quite expensive. Lots of folks have used Miracles glass tanks out of Canada. sol RNY, oneradtek, both have Miracles tanks. ABC Reefs has a few. RandyO, proprietor of ARC in Buffalo is one of their bigger champions. I looked into one myself way back when. I think my Marineland was actually a touch more expensive.

Back to acrylic, there are a few guys on here that might be able to better guide you. 1" thick acrylic stock won't be cheap, I don't think. Though it will be much easier to transport.

Dont buy an acrylic tank!!!!

I know someone who is selling a 300 DD Marine series tank if your interested. They want to sell the whole setup though, for $4k. Price seemed high to me. Pm me if you would like their info.

I agree with you on going with a cube, just alot more possibilities with the rock work and you can get more swimming room for tangs and what not. My Marineland 200DD reef ready was delivered today but the stand that we made isnt complete yet. The tank is 4x3 and IMO its a awesome foot print to play around with.

also i got it from Millie, took about 4 days to get the tank

A local guy to buffalo is moving and needs to get rid of his 240 gallon custom tank. It's 60"x30"x30". I haven't seen it since it was setup, but word is the front has some scratches on it. It's a miracles tank with a euro brace on just the left and right sides, but no brace on front or back for easy access. Has a center overflow box with return holes in the back panel on the left and right side.
He has to be out of his house by august 1st, and wants to sell the whole setup including fish and corals. He wants 4000.00 for everything.

Not sure if it's what your looking for.

great inside tip, Randy!

Jeremy- here's something else to think about as you search for a cube that large:

I don't know if you've considered this, but large "standard" size aquariums can usually be purchased relatively inexpense. It's when you start to go custom that prices increase astronomically (did I spell that right?).

Consider a "standard" size 72" long 220 gallon or 84" long 260 gallon. Turn the aquarium's short end to a wall and run it like a peninsula. Do the rock stack down the middle and leave lots of swimming room on both sides and the end (similar to my aquarium if you've seen it).

If nothing else, these suggestive posts are keeping your thread bumped up in front of a waterlogged audience :)

Can you PM me contact info so I can check a quote? Thanks to all for the suggestion.

Gary, Thanks for the alternative ideas. I won't be able to buy until we close on the house and I know where I'm going to put it anyway. If it turns out that a peninsula would work better, then I'll probably go that way. Or maybe an in-wall setup...

Randy, thanks for the tip. If I go in-wall, those dimensions might work great. August 1st is cutting it close, and I'd rather start from scratch in the tank, than buy an entire tank's contents.

Captain's 200DD dimensions sound great, and the pics look amazing. Maybe this 200DD is the way to go instead of 240 cube...

There is also a marineland 250DD 5'x3'.

There's something about the 48" face that I like. Can't put my finger on it... Maybe because of all the DD tanks it's the most cube-like?

I'm not too interest in Starphire, but if someone had one laying around, I wouldn't pass it up.

I'll be watching Captain's thread closely.
