Just an update to this thread since it's been 2 weeks.

1.) I'm now looking at the 300DD as the one I should probably start thinking about.
2.) If I go 300g I'm afraid of putting it anywhere except the basement whereas a 200g would allow me to sleep at night if braced correctly. I guess it depends on the house we end up buying, but I don't like the idea of a basement tank (I want living room prime real estate).
3.) Starphire seems like it's not *that* much more... but also doesn't seem to inspire the ooohs and aaaahs it's supposed to.
4.) If I could go 300DD and pick one up used within the state, that seems like a nice win, but if not, I'll probably go with Miracles based on the accounts I've read here with their customer service and decent prices. Thanks, SolRNY, for the build thread. I didn't know Brandon ordered his tank (or maybe he got it used from someone who bought from Miracles). I'll discuss with him next time I'm in the shop with him.
5.) The more I read, the more I dislike the idea of building an elaborate CL system. My ideal would be a basement sump/fish room with a powerful pump utilizing a simple manifold and Loc-Line for a return. Add a few powerheads (does the MP40 really cost that much?!?), and I should be OK if I have simple rockwork, right? Seems the threads here agree this is fine for 200DD, but also OK for 300DD as well?
6.) I'd love to go LED on this next tank, but don't have a degree in electrical engineering. Are there legitimate consumer products that are plug and play and cost the same as an expensive MH/T5 rig?

These are the things that keep me up at night, and glued to this forum by day.

Now yer talkin' Big Dog. I had my DD pulled off the production line (or seduction line, if you're into AC/DC) before they put the overflows in the corner. That way I could control the look of it. Where it's located, I didn't want to see the corner overflows. One corner would have worked, but not the double dirty. I had an overflow made, much smaller profile and drilled the tank myself. But I digress, the point is, if you like the dimensions, you have that option, versus shelling out major coin for a custom. Honestly though, the cost of a new Marineland, might not be much less or even MORE than a Miracles with the same dimensions. It's worth checking anyway...

As for Starphire, MOST people being non-reefers, it isn't worth it IMO. If your reef is spectacular enough, people won't put their nose up against the glass and say, WOW it's such clear glass!!! There's also the argument (founded or unfounded, I don't know) that because of it's low iron, it scratches easier. Either way, it scared me enough to shy away.

3rd DO NOT call me when you have to move that into your house. My 200 was enough of a beast. I cannot fathom having to move a 300. So good luck with all that!

If you're going 300, an MP 60 might be what you'd want, or 2 anyway. And YES! they cost that much. But Vortech fanboys like myself will give it an endorsement everytime. I think we know where Chrisqueenz and Gary M. stand on the subject.

Another good point. The marineland tanks seem more economical, but the consensus seems to be that the quality isn't nearly as good as Miracles. Since I'm not really a brand whore, I'd be OK with a marineland if I heard enough people dispel that concern.

I'd love a C2C external with BeanAnimal drains. I don't build overflows, stands, or canopies, so the turnkey of a used setup, or the Dr. Foster's all-inclusive package for Marinelands is attractive.

My biggest complaint with the marineland tank is the trim. The tank is listed as 4x3x 27" deep. In reality, there is 2" of trim on the top and bottom. So its profile becomes 31" tall. Good luck getting that through a standard door. Mine barely made it through the slider. It also makes the operating depth 29". Shirt off or shirt wet. Possibly even a need for a snorkle.

A custom tank 27" deep, is 27" deep. As for the lifting.....you missed your window....maybe 2 years ago, before my daughter broke me down.

A local guy to buffalo is moving and needs to get rid of his 240 gallon custom tank. It's 60"x30"x30". I haven't seen it since it was setup, but word is the front has some scratches on it. It's a miracles tank with a euro brace on just the left and right sides, but no brace on front or back for easy access. Has a center overflow box with return holes in the back panel on the left and right side.
He has to be out of his house by august 1st, and wants to sell the whole setup including fish and corals. He wants 4000.00 for everything.

Not sure if it's what your looking for.

sorry to intrude on your thread...do you by any chance have any contact info for this setup? I tried pming you but it wouldn't go through. thanks.
