Xenia Looks different?

I bought a large frag of a species of white "feather" xenia about two weeks ago. Compared to my other red xenia, it has shorter stalks, and has more feathering on the fingers. However, as I lok at it more closely it seems the feathering on the fingers has seemed to have scrunched up or disappeared. I didn'nt knw if it was because of feeding, but right after i noticed this i mixed a small clump of cylcopeeze, mixed it with seawater in a cup and spot fed it witha syringe, nothing has changed but could have sworn my other corals got fatter:lol:. is somethng wrong, or am i just over reacting, i dont want him to die. :(

any help would be great reefcentral.

I Think it should be fine, xenia looks different from tank to tank, different lighting, water chemistry, etc... nothing to worry about, if it's open and pulsing I just leave it alone. You can't really spot feed xenia, they absorb nutrients from the water.

agreed

also if you just got the Xenia recently, try waiting s bit to see how it changes due to your lighting scheme

it may get taller/shorter etc. or change colors perhaps, just in regard to the change in water and lighting specs.

he just seems to not pump as frequently as he did during the first few days I had him. Thanks though.
And, could anybody give me some names of the species of my white and reddish brown xenia?

Any healthy xenia will pulse. The pulse is a gas exchange and not a reaction of grabbing food, even though their mouths are located within their prawns. Xenia should never need to be spot fed and would probably react poorly to doing so. It sounds to me like yours were probably just a little stressed from relocation or acclimation. Give em some time, they're so hardy that I can't control the growth of mine. They're more of a "weed" in their nature. They'll bounce back.

I've noticed if my Ca or Alk is out to high or low it will not pulse or really slow down. Check your parameters but also let it settle in.

In not time you will be like this :eek1:
I even cycle my 125 with it and didn't die :p
