I have put two damsels in my tank for three days. I have a blue with yellow tail, and a yellow damsel. This morning I noticed the yellow damsel was turning dark, almost kind of blackish. Are they suppoused to change color?
My blue damsel is acting fine and is swiming all over the place. And I have noticed the yellow was not even eating much after the first day, he mostly sits at the bottom and hides in the rock. But I don't understand why he is getting dark. The yellow fish is even bigger than the blue fish.
Can someone please give me an answer.

If the lights just came on then it is normal for fish to become either darker or look pale. I had a yellow tail that became a darker hue as it got older.

I have 7 Blue Damsels that change to a dark blue (almost black) when they are stressed.

My guess would something is causing them stress. What are your water parameters?

I actually just put more live rock in the tank. And it was semi-cured. Is that the reason they are under stress. I will test my water as soon as I get home.
thanks,

It well could be. I would monitor ammonia and nitrite and do larger than normal water changes until all levels are zero.

Pat

Pat,
the truth is my tank has not even gone thru one cycle. I know I should have probably waited but the fish are going thru my first cylce.
I know I shouldn't have put the fish in there but the LFS won't take them back. I just hope they survive.
But my guess is I don't want change water since it is going thru the fist cycle right??
