I'm a little unclear about how many gallons that tank will equal, but from what I can make of the dimensions the height is about 27-inches or thereabouts. For a tank that deep, if you don't want to be limited in which corals you can have, then I would definitely go with the 250-watts.

If you have room for a sump of up to 20-gallons, go with the 20-gallon sump.

I'd be excited, too, by the way...good luck.

I don't consider a 150 watt limiting. SPS and clams on top, LPS in the middle layers, softies down low.

but ya still have to get rid of the two mandarins... only one, after the tanks been set up forever. I don't know how many gallons that tank is, hold on.... 90 gallon tank.

only ONE mandarin, please... and after that tank has been up FOREVER-well, 6 months to a year, depending on the pod population. and 3 bicolor angels won't work together either: they'll beat the crap outta eachother. One dwarf angel, you can get one of the smaller species of tang (kole, achilles, goldrim, lavender, yellow) in australia, you may beable to get fish that you don't normally see on the US sites... I'm thinking you'll have access to unique wrasses, dwarf angels, things like that.

5 or more small fish-small clowns, gobies, wrasses, cardinals, other fish that stay under 5"

I realy want two mandarins, i am only going to buy them when my tank is around 1 year old and only if their on frozens, also i plan to have alot of LR around 60LBS each? woudnt that be enough?

Hmmm....NEMO...that size being the case, and if you really don't want to be limited, I'd have to respectfully and firmly disagree with Swanwillow. In fact, with a tank that big, I'd think that a 400-watt mh would be really ideal. My tank is a bit shallower, at 24 or 25-inches and I have two 250-watt mh's on it. I would be a bit dissatisfied with anything less.

Also, I'd be very cautious about adding any dwarf angel other than some of the clearly "reef-safe" ones. They aren't as colorful as the Bicolor and some of the others but they won't be a gamble as far as your coral would be concerned. They aren't always a problem but it is impossible to predict whether the particular one you'd buy is going to do harm to any zoanthids, open brains, clams, etc. that you might put into your reef.

hey, I'm more into stocking than lighting... so go for what ^ says on lighting!!!!


50% chance the angel eats corals... and ONE per tank... they'll kill eachother.
ONE tang, they get HUGE-its not an issue of scrapping, which they may do. its that they poo out ALOT
I doubt you'll find a pair of mandarins eating frozen... I'm sorry, it just doesn't happen that often that you can find ONE eating frozen, and finding a mated pair of mandarins in and of itself if HARD to do... you've been told this over an over an over.

I'll explain it this way: in nature, fish have THOUSANDS of gallons.. in which to get away from other fish, ESPECIALLY thier own species. Angels are loners in nature, only coming together to mate. Tangs school, but they also cover about half a hectare a day, thats why its hard to put more than one in a tank under 150 gallons. In a 90 gallon tank, one is PLENTY and NO it won't get lonely.

you MAY want to go look at other sites for more variety of fish. If I had a 90 gallon, I'd have
a kole tang
a coral beauty or half-black angel
5 flasher or fairy wrasses
a pair of shrimp gobies with thier shrimp: I like the red banded too
and I can MAYBE get a mandarin in a year or two, IF I KNOW the pod population is HUGE

the problem that ive got is that i like to go with a theme... like FIJI or INDO-PACIFIC... or even the CARRABIAN... what would you do because i really like the fish from the indo-pacific.... they are my favourite

ok, indo-pacific, actually, thats most fish in the hobby. hehe

anything from 'figi' or the pacific.

ya know, something you may find interesting, that can be kept in 'packs' since you like the pairing idea: leaf-fish. they got stingers, and need to be fed mostly live ghost shrimp. BUT they will also hunt in packs, and can be kept in groups. They are found in shallow pacific regions.

I think you'll be best going to themarinecenter .com and looking at the fish lists. they all say 'range in nature' and that may make it more possible to peice together what ya want.

oh, and ps: my list IS mostly from the pacific... the indo pacific for the angels and gobies, western pacific for the wrasses, hawaii for the tang..

the indo-pacific is indonesia, no hawaii is not in it. the pacific region is HUGE, the indo-pacific is only a big region, north of you a bit.
find a world map, find indonesia... all of the light colored water around it is indo-pacific.

if you have a deep pocketbook, an interesting setups would be from the red sea and japan. since your in NZ, I'd wish I can say set up from the barrier reef, but I don't think collecting is allowed there???

dunno: look it up./.. become an expert!!! you may have to find out what types of fish live there, and then order them from somewhere else.
