Zebra Moray Eel

We had two zebra eels. They are very docile never bugged anything. Also had a peppermint shrimp in there that hung out in their cave. You will need a good skimmer because they will add alotto the bioload. They get pretty big so you will need a decent size tank, we had ours in a 240 gallon.

The Zebra Moray is one of the most docile of the eels available. But keep in mind it grows to a maximum lenght of approx 4'9" none the less makes a great addition to anytank considering you have a large enough tank to accomdate the eel at its full grown size and that you have a very tight lid so the little bugger cant except! Goodluck.

Shrimps will be eaten as will small fish. VERY cool look'n eel!

I've had mine for about 3 years. I keep 4 skunk cleaners, a fire shrimp and several varieties of hermits from large to small in there with it. So far, it has been a model citizen. Infact, it allows the skunks to clean it regularly (even up in it's mouth), and bascially shares a section of rock with 1 of them at all times. All the shrimp were added at least 2 years after the eel.

I also keep a flame angel, a mted pair of maroon clowns, algae blenny a pseudochromis in there with the eel. No problems here either :)

I'm not saying they won't go after inverts, but wanted to share my experience.

But like I said above, this fish has been a model citizen at all times. I enjoy feeding it, and it was a wonderful addition to my system :D

Cheers,

Jim

They are primarily crustacean feeders (look at their teeth which are made for crushing and not grabbing fish). Their size is the biggest consideration.

I have had mine nearly five years, it is well fed, and is maybe 40-46" long. It has never bothered a fish, not even small ones. It would never eat fish strips either. It does not bother the few hermit crabs, ghost shrimp and snails I have in the tank. I feed it frozen scallops, shrimp, squid/octopus, and live fiddler crabs.

How do you get the food to him? do you just toss it in? or target feed him?

I target fed ours. I used a 3 foot wooden dowl that i made a point on the end. Take a piece of shrimp or whatever you are feed it and just place it on the end.
